A safe space to swim

At Ketelbinkie, we want everyone to feel free to jump into the water and be themselves. Without judgment, without having to explain yourself, and with respect for who you are.

Our roots lie in the gay and lesbian community, and that’s exactly why we know how important it is to have a place where you feel welcome, seen, and safe.

We create that safe environment together. We treat each other with respect, respect each other’s boundaries, and value everyone for who they are. There is no place here for discrimination, exclusion, harassment, bullying, or any other inappropriate behavior—not in the pool, nor in the locker room, during competitions, during activities, or online.

We welcome people of all sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, backgrounds, ages, and body types. Plus, you don’t have to fit into a specific label to be part of Ketelbinkie. Whether you’re queer, questioning, an ally, or just looking for an open and inclusive swimming club—you’re welcome here!

At the same time, we’re a sports club. We train seriously, challenge each other, and help each other improve. Differences in skill level and ambition are welcome: some compete in races, while others work on their technique, fitness, or personal goals.

What brings us together is the joy of swimming and the freedom to do so in an environment where you can be yourself.

A safe space isn't created just by talking about it. It requires everyone's attention. That's why we call each other out when necessary, and you can always speak up if something doesn't feel right or if you've experienced something.

Within the association, there are people you can turn to, such as confidential advisors, and we take reports regarding social safety seriously.

In our pool, everyone should feel safe to dive in!
